About Equestrian Facility Design

Equine Facility Design is a professional design firm specializing in planning, design, and project management for sites and structures used by the horse community including private equestrian stables, horse barns, horse farms, horse training facilities and more.

Our goal is to translate your vision of a creative, beautiful and exciting environment for horses and people into reality. We do this by carefully listening to your dreams and finding ways to achieve them in harmony with the natural features of your location and within the guidelines of responsible planning.

Architect Matthew E. Johnson, owner of Equine Facility Design, grew up in the horse-enthusiast area of Chester County, Pennsylvania. He rode English as a child, attended Devon Horse Shows, and watched Radnor Hunt Club fox hunts around his parents’ property. Matt continues to take lessons and rides whenever he can. His son has also developed a love of all things equine and has been enthusiastically training as a hunter/jumper for the past six years.

This early immersion in the equine world has helped define Matt’s approach to the work he loves. His appreciation for and understanding of these magnificent animals serve as cornerstones for his conceptualized approach throughout the planning, design, and construction aspects at Equine Facility Design.

Matt graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Architecture Degree from Syracuse University with an additional minor in ceramics. He is currently a Licensed Architect in nine states and Canada.

With eighteen years of professional experience, Matt has additionally designed and managed many commercial, institutional, health care, and residential projects within the United States and abroad. At Equine Facility Design, Matt gives his personal attention to every client’s requirements throughout the entire equestrian facility development process. At the same time, he professionally manages and incorporates aesthetically durable health and safety design aspects in the firm’s projects, from inception through construction. Equine Facility Design has been proud of their successes and customer satisfaction.
